About us

Dokuforte is a free, community-based photo archive dedicated to preserving and sharing Israel-Diaspora related photographs. By bringing these images together, we aim to create a shared visual memory, a collective photo album for present and future generations.

Photographs may be used without restriction, provided they are credited as Dokuforte / Photo Donator: [name], acknowledging the generosity of the original owner.

Every person and every family carries a history. Often technically imperfect yet deeply moving, personal photographs capture moments and eras long past. Together, they document our shared history, the lives of Jewish communities in the Diaspora and the collective effort of parents and grandparents who built Israel side by side, through hardship and hope. With many of these images at risk of being lost, Dokuforte is a vital last-hour effort to save the visual heritage of families and Jewish communities all around Israel and the Diaspora.

We gather photographs from individuals, families, professional photographers, and public institutions, covering the 19th century through the early years of the State of Israel, up until 1998. Unlike other archives, we provide all images in print-quality resolution and ensure easy access for all. In addition to family photographs, Dokuforte seeks to expand its collection with works by amateur and professional photographers, as well as materials from community archives. We are also interested in photographs taken in individuals’ and families’ countries of origin prior to aliyah.

The Dokuforte Team

Dokuforte was founded by Noa Schiller, who remains the main driving force behind the archive and serves as its executive director. Beyond her dedication, the work is made possible through the tireless commitment of our team members: Enzo Angiulli, Richard Gazdik, Andrea Kerecsen, Gábor Sólyomi, Csaba Sós, Oren Shapir, Tamás Tucker
